Mind over Matter for Breast Cancer Survivors May 4-June 1 2022 (FC)

Note that this session is specific to survivors of breast cancer who are not currently in active treatment. Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery (MBCR) Apr 28-June 9 2022 (FC)

Learn practices that focus on the connection and integration of the mind and body to effect physical, emotional, and spiritual changes for the purpose of promoting health and well-being. Each week you will explore different aspects of mindfulness, therefore weekly attendance, daily home-based practice, and reading assignments are expected. The first class of this series is an important hour-long orientation. Please obtain a copy of Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery by Carlson & Speca for class. Space is limited. Fun and functional, this workout helps build stronger bones as well as tone and fine-tune major muscle groups for strength and total-body conditioning. If you are scheduled for a mastectomy, mastectomy with reconstruction or lumpectomy with reconstruction this educational class will help you prepare for surgery. You will receive an overview of what to expect from our oncology nurse navigator. Learn what you need to know before, during and after breast cancer surgery: node biopsy, managing drains and discomfort, bathing, moving comfortably, prosthesis and more. Family/friends welcome. Small Group Training -FC (FC)

Small-Group Training under the supervision of an experienced Certified Personal Trainer. Join this 9-week 60-minute class that will provide positive encouragement, social support, and the exercises guidance needed to maintain muscles, promote better posture and movement, reduce stress, fight fatigue, and improve outcomes. The class will incorporate dynamic stretches, strengthening-based moves, core exercises, followed by a cool-down that leaves you feeling better than when you came in. Bring your own water bottle, towel, wear comfortable clothing you can move in with supportive footwear. Please be current on your COVID-19 Vaccines and plan on wearing face masks while entering and exiting the Family Center.

Somatic Yoga is a movement therapy that is accessible to everyone. Many mitigate persistent stress, physical and emotional pain, stiffness, and postural imbalances with this subtle practice. By observing the brain to muscle behaviors we may be able to mindfully re-educate the patterns and have long-lasting and immediate results. Modifications and alterations will be offered. This class is the more advanced version of Buff Bones. Sixty minutes in length, this class will address the mind and body with breathwork and flow from lower body to upper body to the floor followed by a cool down. Weight-bearing exercises will be performed. Please have a set of weights or resistance bands that are appropriate for your fitness level (light to medium). Participants must be able to work from the floor. Modifications for various conditions and fitness levels will be provided.

Note: Blending gentle movement, breathing and relaxation you'll learn movements that stretch, strengthen, relax muscles and increase stamina and flexibility. Instructor: Anita Mahava. Please bring a blanket and a small towel. Masks are required. Registration and a signed Physical Activity Waiver is required for each previously unattended class. Participants who are more than 2 years out of completing active treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, targeted therapies, and immunotherapies) are encouraged to consider making a donation of $5 per class. Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music to further development, emotional, physical, and social goals in an individual. Music therapy can help support the physical and psycho-social needs of patients and family members who are dealing with cancer. This weekly group will offer the opportunity to discover how the healing nature of rhythm and sound can be integrated into your cancer experience. Sessions may include music meditation, guided visualization, live improvisation, drumming, toning, song writing and song sensation. Designed for all levels, TBC, combines aerobic conditioning with strength training and balance elements, to keep your fitness routine fresh. Don’t have weights, no problem! Water bottles, body weight or cans of soup will do the trick. Registration is required.

An energetic, full-body workout that’s just plain fun! You don’t need drum sticks or drums, just enthusiasm, and a willingness to move! Plan to substitute plastic kitchen utensils in lieu of drumsticks or, just use your arms. Registration is required.

Buff Bones - Daytime ( Zoom)

Fun and functional, this workout helps build stronger bones as well as tone and fine-tune major muscle groups for strength and total-body conditioning. You’ll build strength by performing different types of movements using hand weights, bands, exercise balls and body weight. You may substitute water bottles, canned, goods, bags of dried beans or rice for weights. Registration is required.

Restorative Yoga - Zoom ( Zoom)

With the use of props for support, you'll hold poses for longer periods of time allowing for deeper relaxation and release. Gentle stretches, breath work and guided meditation deepen your practice. If you don't have these props at home, pillows, blankets and towels can be substituted. Registration is required.

Sound Bath ( Zoom)

A sound bath is a meditative experience where those in attendance are “bathed” in sound waves. These waves are produced by various sources, including healing instruments such as gongs and singing bowls. From the comfort of your own home, immerse yourself in sound and vibrations that will restore you to a state of ease so you can rest and feel more ready for sleep.

-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL GROUPS & CLASSES. Registration enables us to appropriately plan for materials and to contact you in case the class is cancelled or postponed.
