Enduring Love and "Continuing Bonds" in Grief (FC)

Michelle Bronzo, MA, LPC, CT, will lead a workshop for individuals living with loss based on Dr. Robert A. Neimeyer's premise that grieving does not come to an endpoint: "Closure is for bank accounts, not for love accounts." The topics discussed include myths of the grieving process, how love endures after death, and concrete ways you can establish "continuing bonds." This is an opportunity for participants to evaluate and develop their own continuing bonds practice so they may have a deeper connection with their deceased loved one going forward.

Cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones are invited to learn practices to support one’s own health, to increase self-compassion and self-care to reduce stress and anxiety and enhance connections with others. Sam Lolak, MD, psychiatrist/psycho-oncologist and certified teacher for Compassion Cultivation Training will facilitate this program, developed at Stanford University. Civil Rights Protections in the Workplace: Understanding the benefits of ADA when you have cancer. (FC)

Matthew Barkley, Director of Disability Services Planning and Development for Fairfax County will talk about the recent expansion of ADA to address workplace protections for people who have cancer and their family members to include symptoms such as pain, neuropathy, cognitive disabilities, mobility issues, and fatigue, etc. The ADA was also expanded and clarified to protect people with cancers that are episodic in nature, and even offers protections for people while their cancer is in remission.
